Opel Previews Electrified Version of the Classic Manta

It seems that resto-modding has become more and more trendy across the motoring community. It pretty much kicked off back when a little English company called Eagle decided it wanted to reinterpret the E-Type Jaguar - and what success they ran away with.

Since then, other little manufacturers have joined the boat; GTO Engineering can now make you a bespoke recreation of the Ferrari 250 SWB and Somerset firm, Alfaholics will charge you supercar money to update a little Alfa Romeo GT Junior.

But even manufacturers have joined the party: Jaguar and Aston Martin have made recreations of some of their greatest models, but perhaps on a less prestige scale, Opel has decided to fiddle around with one of their most-loved cars: the Manta.

The new Opel/Vauxhall Mokka went on sale recently and is distinctive for having a front fascia which reminisces the old Manta. It was probably at this point when Opel's designers decided to fiddle around with the real deal and bring it into the modern era.

The new grille attached to the appropriately-named Manta GS-e ElektroMOD has a number of different digital displays. Quite odd for where a radiator grille used to go, but it is a design concept after all!

Replacing the little 1.9 litre 4-cylinder engine is an electric powertrain. There will undoubtedly be some other modern upgrades as well including those massive new tyres which are a far cry from the skinny Dunlops the old Mantas had.

The full reveal of the reimagined classic is set to take place in May with further details explained. Who knows - this may even be a production car whereby Opel re-make the old Mantas (gosh, that would be cool...).
